Good vibes only!” This statement has become saturated, yet holds truth that anyone should give a second thought.

‘Vibes’ in this sense refers to vibrations, or the energy a person, place, or object holds. The vibrations you have sets the tone for your interactions and day to day life.

Do you know what kind of energy you hold? Do you know what adds to or subtracts from your energy?

Personally, I am aware of my energy and the vibes an environment produces. I know I must maintain a certain level of comfort. If I don’t, I begin to feel tired, drained, and ready to run to recharge my social battery!

Over the years, I have found a few tips and tricks that help me, and with repetition can help you set the tone for the better!

  1. Having time for yourself as you wake up - Many people stay up late, wake up early, and rush out the door! Get to bed earlier, wake up earlier, and make your BED!
I know we have a tendency to try and squeeze out of those 10 extra minutes. If you get out of bed instead of scrolling your phone, or praying to the sandman, you will set pace to taking action in your day.

Making your bed is accomplishing a (yes it’s small) task, but begins your day with a direction of overcoming any and every challenge, big or small.

  2. Be firm in who you are - Many times as an adult, we have to learn how to say “No”. Although my physical appearance gives me advantage over most, it is crucial you set boundaries in life. As long as you are working to improve your life and circumstances, never let any one remove you from your chosen path. Learn from those where you want to be, but always remain firm in who you are. My favorite line is “I said what I said”! Stick to your commitments, and be a person of your word! You will soon see that folks will give you more respect.

  3. Be Selfish! - yes, be Selfish! That does not mean become a cold - hearted hermit, but be selfish! You may be consumed with your attachment to relationships. Consumed with job duties, romantic relationships, or just overall responsibilities. I am not advocating ditching these attachments, but ensure you reserve time dedicated to yourself. Dedicated to exploring who you are as you’ve grown and the things you enjoy! This is the most refreshing, and free thing anyone can choose to do. (free depends on your choice, meditation and yoga is free!)

In life you want to have the clarity to change the things you can control, grace to accept things you cannot, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Knowing the difference in what you can, and cannot control helps with depression and anxiety. This creates the tone for the life that you live. The tone you take permeates in all aspects of life, and shapes your overall happiness.
